NEWS Out from ISRAEL Is hardly ever good. In recent weeks, together with the rise of violence between Israelis and Palestinians, the world population has been bracing to get a “third intifada,” which can only mean more violence in your community.
But one Israeli hummus cafe is to take steps to promote reconciliation. They posted these on Facebook:
מפחדים מערבים? מפחדים מיהודים? אצלנו אין ערבים! אבל אין גם יהודים… אצלנו יש בני אדם! וחומוס ערבי אמיתי ומעולה!…

The message, within the Hummus Bar at M Mall in Kfar Vitkin, translated, reads:
“Petrified of Arabs? Frightened of Jews? Here there won’t be any Arabs, but also no Jews. Here there are actually people! And genuine excellent Arabic hummus! And Jewish, excellent praiseworthy falafel with free refill on every hummus, whether you’re Arabs, Jews, Christians or Indians.
Special bargain: 50% discount on hummus into a table where Arabs and Jews sit together.”
Is it a marketing ploy? Sure. But it’s also a rare moment of openness and perhaps sweetness of what is otherwise frequently a bitter and violent story.
The manager in the bar, Kobi Tzafrir, told the Times of Israel, that “If there’s whatever is able to bring together these peoples, it’s hummus.”
