Men’s, Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Longwood men’s and women’s tennis took care of business on the road on Sunday afternoon. The teams each took out Chowan 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
On the men’s side, Longwood (3-2) cruised after all three doubles pairings won their matches to clinch the doubles point.
 
In singles, Yoav Weinberg played at No. 1 singles for the first time this spring and smoothly sailed past Nikola Cvetanovic 6-1, 6-3.
 
Timeo Puech took care of business at No. 2 singles as well, with a 6-2, 6-4 score line.
 
Luka Krause gave the Lancers the final point necessary for the win with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
 
On the women’s side, all three doubles pairings again took care of business for Longwood (3-4), and the Lancers won their third straight.
 
Karina Rizvanova played at No. 1 singles for the first time in the spring to earn a 6-2, 6-1 win.
 
Wiktoria Czerny got stronger as the match went on at No. 2 singles. After taking the opening set 6-3, she cruised to a 6-0 win in the second set.
 
Nine Hederich finished the win off with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
“Both teams played well and had good energy on the court today,” said Director of Tennis Adam Jackson. “We hope to carry some of this momentum into a tough part of the schedule this week.”
 
UP NEXT:
 
The Lancer women’s team hosts Richmond on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before traveling to UNC Wilmington and Coastal Carolina this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Lancer men are on the road at UNC Wilmington on Saturday and Sunday as well.
