Travel: PhotowalksTV Ideal of 2022

We went to tons of fantastic locations in 2022 for PhotowalksTV, my streaming travel photography series that’s witnessed on YouTube, Tubi and the Roku Channel. Photograph times, of training course, stand out, but equally particular are some of the great folks I met on the street.

The pleasure of touring and producing video clips is meeting fascinating folks, and in my once-a-year conclude of the 12 months spotlight reel, I’d like to glow a highlight on a couple of them. Two of them are even ideal below in the South Bay, both in Hermosa Seashore.

We achieved Nicholas Gauthier in Paris for PhotowalksTV

Nico Gauthier is the region manager for the social journal application Flipboard. When we met him in Paris, he showcased the basic dry French wit, telling me of a legendary smartphone app that would freeze if it saw 1 striving to just take a photo of the Eiffel Tower, “because it’s been performed a billion moments.”

In Bandon, Oregon, an out of the way, but oh so magical put in southern Oregon, the photographer Susan Dimmock instructed me I necessary extra than just a digital camera by my facet to capture the rock formations. “Don’t overlook the boots.” You have to have to get soaked if you consider pictures in Bandon.

In Pismo Beach front, folks stand on line for several hours to get initial crack at the Previous West Cinnamon Rolls shop on Dolliver Road. I required one thing a little more–I needed to see how these beauties were being made. Operator Cindy Parkhurst instructed me if I returned the future early morning at 6 a.m. I’d be ready to movie it. She also questioned me “Have you observed our sunsets listed here?” and created a sigh. Indeed, they are incredibly distinctive. Often even far more so than the South Bay.

Out on the San Francisco Bay, Mike McCue had invited me to be part of him on a “Photosail” to get a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge from one more angle–his boat! He was ideal, it was extraordinary. I tried out traveling my drone from out there, but it could not fly as rapidly as the boat could sail. In truth, it got misplaced at sea. Mike turned the boat around and caught it in mid-air, handing it back to the operator.

Von Cannon and his periwinkle shells by Sam Graham for the Effortless Reader

Then ended up two extra unforgettable assignments for the Simple Reader.

Publisher Kevin Cody requested me to check out the seashell assortment of Hermosa Beach’s Von Cannon, who immediately after we achieved, I dubbed the Seashell Millionaire. He has hundreds of thousands of them, in a tiny minor residence. Hopefully a single working day he turns it into a museum!

He has regular shells, periwinkles, sand dollars and moonstones, sea glass and tiles, even lifeless starfish that he’s painted around. And which is not at all. He’s also a finder of misplaced seaside stuff. He collects what is left behind and will take it residence for display. That incorporates odd flip-flops, cigarette lighters, broken sunglasses, flip telephones, GoPro cameras, iPhones and other factors dumped in the sand.

“I just adore the ocean,” he states. “It’s therapy for me.”

And for the 3rd calendar year in a row, I did a video episode with Browsing Santa. This yr was excess distinctive, as we watched neighborhood chiropractor Derek Levy transform himself into the Surfman and then hit the h2o, which was a good deal of exciting.
